Barry M Fall In Love Palette… Worth it?

It’s been a while since I last did a blog post due to being in London all weekend so my apologies. I’ve been making big changes to my blog and social media if you haven’t already noticed. I now have a brand new Instagram account which I will be uploading to (@livewithkatieblog).

Now onto my review, I’ve recently discovered the Barry M palette by another blogger off Instagram (I can’t remember her name, sorry!) Anyway,  I thought I’d invest in it to show you guys what it’s like. I purchased this palette from Boots. For £6.49 which I thought was an absolute bargain. You can also purchase it from pretty much any drug store or online; Superdrug, ASOS or Feel Unique. In the palette you get 10 matte shades some cool toned and some warm. These shades can create an awesome winter/autumn look which is the main reason why I purchased it.

swatches.jpg

The top two shades I found were not really pigmented as you can see in the picture above. HOWEVER, the rest of the shades I was extremely impressed by. They are very pigmented and a little goes a long way! Some of the colours I wouldn’t usually use but after trying them out you can create some really beautiful looks with them.

I wasn’t expecting much due to the fact it only cost not even £7 so I wouldn’t have been too bothered if it didn’t look amazing. The palette isn’t as good as something like the Modern Renaissance Eye Shadow Palette which is my absolute favourite eye shadow palette of all time. But let’s be real it’s less than 3 quarters of the price of the Anastasia palette so it would never have been as good as that. But for it’s price it is amazing.

For £7 you can’t really go wrong and it’s a cute little palette to add to your collection. The palette is pretty small and compact so it’s so easy to carry around and use if you’re travelling as well. It also has a little compact mirror inside which isn’t something I would usually expect from a drugstore palette, this defiantly makes it look high end.

For me I would recommend this palette, it’s super cheap and you can create some beautiful autumn/winter eye shadow looks with it. This palette is definitely worth buying. I would rate this a 4/5 and would highly recommend buying it if you’re looking for a cheap eye shadow palette.

Let me know if you already have it or if you’re planning on buying it! What eye shadow look did you create?

Kat Von D Lolita Vs. Sleek Velvet Slipper… Is It A Good Dupe?

The Kat Von D liquid lipsticks aren’t exactly new to the makeup world but they are still extremely popular. They are on the more expensive side of things so getting your hands on one if you’re on a budget may not be appealing to you.

Luckily for you I have recently stumbled across a somewhat dupe for the Kat Von D liquid lipstick in the shade Lolita. Now let’s talk about the cost difference. The Kat Von D liquid lipstick retails for around £17 depending where you get it from, if you’re going to ship it from the US it will cost just a little bit more. However the sleek matte me lip cream in the shade Velvet Slipper only retails for £4.99 which is a huge price difference.

The packaging of the Sleek Matte Me lip cream is in fact very sleek, pun not intended. It is a small rectangular shaped plastic tube which does look very high end for it’s price. The packaging of Kat Von D’s Lolita is exactly what you expect for the price. A small tall tube which sliver roses printed onto the applicator lid and a band around the bottom of the tube with the traditional Kat Von D marking. Personally I love the packaging for the sleek one because it’s just so simple but a very nice design, basically it doesn’t look cheap. However the design for the Kat Von D one is beautiful, I love the roses printed on and it looks very high end, you’re getting what you’ve paid for.

The shades are pretty similar, although Lolita is slightly lighter. I am confident that sleek do have a slightly lighter shade which could be better matched. Both lipsticks were highly pigmented and had a very similar lovely, creamy consistency that guilds onto the lips. So in that department there really isn’t much difference.

kat von de vs sleek

When I first discovered the Sleek Matte Me lipsticks I didn’t really have much hope due to having bad experiences with drugstore liquid lipstick’s before. However, I was delightfully surprised when I applied the matte me lipstick. It went on smooth and easily and didn’t leave any patches on my lips. Compared to Kat Von D’s Lolita it was pretty much the same. Lolita is my all time favourite liquid lipstick, my holy grail and go to. The application was smooth and easy to apply even if you’re not using a lip liner.

The Matte Me lipstick was mainly transfer resistant, it didn’t smudge off or leave a lipstick mark on a glass when drinking but I did notice a few bit’s of purple when eating. This didn’t really bother me too much purely due to the fact it was only £5 after all. The Kat Von D lipstick didn’t budge at all, from experience of using it before it wouldn’t smudge from touching, drinking or eating. Only the natural wear and tear of a lipstick applied so I would just touch up every couple of hours (if I was wearing it all day). Both lipsticks seem to be doing their job, however, one is considerably less cost wise than the other. So I guess it’s down to you which one you go for.

I think Sleek Matte Me in Velvet Slipper is a really good dupe for Kat Von D Lolita. It’s a great drugstore alternative especially because it will save you a lot of money. However, if Lolita is in your budget I would highly recommend getting it, it is well worth the money, trust me. There’s no harm in getting both and trying them both our for yourself. You can never have enough lipsticks.

Maybelline Tattoo Brow… Does It Work?

I’ve seen a lot of speculation about the Maybelline Tattoo Brow lately so I thought I’d try it out myself and see if it works.

I’m pretty much assuming this is the drug store equivalent to the Wunderbrow product which retails for £19.95 where as the Tattoo Brow retails for £12.99. To be honest it isn’t really that much cheaper but it’s worth saving the money and trying it out.

I purchased the tattoo brow from Superdrug which cost me £11.69 including student discount so £12.99 otherwise. If you want to purchase the product or have a look you can find it here.

So the tattoo brow comes in 3 shades; light brown, medium brown and dark brown. These 3 shades may not cater for everyone as they are pretty basic, maybe because it’s a new product they’ll release more? Who knows. I chose the light brown colour because I am in the process of dying my hair blonde and if it’s any good I would like to get some good use out of it.

The cost of the product is pretty good, I mean for an eyebrow product in the drugstore you could class it as a little more on the expensive side but it’s still a drugstore brand. So for £12.99 you get a small tube of product in a rather fancy looking tube. If I’m completely honest from looking at pictures it looks like you’d be getting more product if you bought Wunderbrow. I don’t know maybe I’m wrong.

tattoo brow 2So before I applied the Tattoo Brow my eyebrows were thin and lifeless, there was nothing to them. Don’t mind the un-plucked eyebrows, I’m in the painful process of growing them out.

tattoo brow

The application of the product wasn’t actually as bad as I thought it was going to be… until it got to trying to do the ends of my brows. Lets just say they’re not looking great at the moment, I would recommend using a thinner brush to do the ends of your brows if they’re thin rather than the applicator it comes with. If you’ve made any mistakes you can easily clean your brows up and wipe away any excess product with a cotton bud. TOP TIP –  make sure you tidy your brows up before the product dries as I noticed it dries very, very quickly.

I saw lots of horror stories about how people’s eyebrows had been ripped off so I didn’t want to leave it on too long that my eyebrows ripped off but not peel it off to quick that the results wouldn’t have been very good. I left the tattoo brow on for 45 minutes in total although if you want it to last for 3 days you have to let the product dry for 2 hours. Now I didn’t really have time to leave it on for that long so when looking at results bare in mind I only left it on for 45 minutes.

The Results

After 45 minutes I peeled the product off, it was quick and easy. It didn’t clump to my eyebrows or peel off in chucks; it came off in one strip and I immediately noticed the results.

My brows looked instantly fuller and the colour wasn’t patchy at all. The main thing about the tattoo brow that really impressed me is that it’s smudge proof so even after trying to rub it off with my fingers it didn’t budge. I’m yet to find out how long the product actually lasts so I will keep you updated.

tattoo brow 4

For me this product is easy to use and it’s quick to get ready in the morning now your eyebrows are already done. However, this process can be very time consuming, who has 2 hours free in the morning to just do their eyebrows alone? I would definitely recommend doing this the night before if you’ve got a busy day ahead.

Cost wise it’s pretty affordable, however it doesn’t really seem like you get a lot of product as you have to lay it on pretty thick. If you’re going to use it often I’m not really sure how long it would last you, although if it does last 3 days I guess you’re saving product you would usually use everyday, right?

I’m going to rate this product 4/5 because I think it’s very handy to have in your make-up bag and gives your eyebrows a natural tint that lasts up to 3 days.

Let me know if you’ve tried Tattoo Brow and give me your thoughts on it.

See you soon,

The Start of A Dr Marten Collection

Sorry for the lack of post’s recently I’ve been so caught up with university and work I haven’t made enough time to post! Don’t worry I’m back.

During my short absence I managed to get my hands on a pair of Dr Martens. I have loved these boots for years but I had never got round to actually getting a pair. I think I have got them at the perfect time of the year, the beginning of winter where all the boots start to come out!

Luckily for me I can fit into junior/youth sizes as I am only a size 5 so don’t have to pay full prices for shoes! On top of this when I also got 20% off in the store so I think all together they were about £64. I’ve just checked the website and they are now only £65 without student discount, typical. If you would like to check them out or get a pair you can get them here.

So anyway onto my review of them.

Dr Martens Black Delaney Lace Unisex Youth

The design of the boots are pretty cool. Just plain black lace up boots, you cant really go wrong. The best part about having a black pair of boots is that you can pretty much wear them with anything which is an added bonus! The one thing I love about them is the little tag on the back of the boots which I just think adds a nice touch to the look.

The fit of the boots is amazing, I had no problem with sizes, I just went for my regular size 5 and they fit perfectly. The boots are not too tight that you can’t wear fluffy socks with them but not too loose that you can’t wear just your average socks with them. So don’t worry about thinking your feet are going to suffocate during the cold weather with thick socks on!

The boots don’t really come cheap (if you don’t fit into junior size) so as for the cost it isn’t great. But I can tell you now you get what you pay for, the boots have a lot of wear in them. Dr Marten’s have always been on the costly side of shoes so I wouldn’t recommend buying them if you’re looking for just a cheap pair of boots. BUT if you do happen to have the money lying around then I would highly recommend buying them. They are well worth the money.

IMG_0141

The materiel of them is kinda a rough sort of leather which really compliments the boots. I’m not a huge fan of the shiny material ones because I just feel like they would scuff and scratch really easily. I have a good feeling these are going to last me years.

So, if you’re looking for a nice pair of boots that pretty much go with any outfit then I would highly recommend these. They’re a little costly but they are well worth the money (especially if you’ve wanted a pair for months!)

I’m definitely going to invest in a few more pairs so if you have any suggestions on which ones to get next please leave a comment down below!

See you soon,

September Favourite’s

I thought I’d share with you my September favourites as it’s coming towards the end of the month. These items are just a random variety of different things I’m loving this month.

Herbal Essences Detox Shampoo

The first thing I’ve discovered this month is the Herbal Essences Detox shampoo with the scent Golden Raspberry and mint. This claims to be light enough for you wash your hair everyday. Now I thought this was an extraordinary claim as I’ve always been told washing your hair everyday isn’t a good idea as it strips your hair of it’s natural oils. My hair and skin has always been oily and my hair always tends to get greasy after 48 hours of washing it which is terrible and also very annoying. I’ve tried this shampoo now for currently 2 weeks and I have to say the results have been really good. I haven’t washed my hair everyday but I can say it does smell really nice. And it’s good value for the cost (£2).

Costa Travel Cup

I feel like I kind of got conned into buying this (or my mum got conned into buying this, sorry mum!) First off I thought it was £5 when really it was £9.25 which sent me into meltdown. Second of all I thought I would be saving money in the long run as you get 25p off your drinks when you bring your travel cup in. After thinking this theory through I discovered I wouldn’t be saving money at all. I basically paid £10 for the cup and each coffee is almost £3, hardly saving anything. Anyway, this is in my favourite’s for a reason. Purely because it’s basically an essential for early university mornings, it’s quick and easy to use and travel with on train journey’s or in the car.

iPhone 7

This is probably the most spontaneous thing I’ve ever bought. I randomly woke up one morning and thought “I want a new phone”. I upgraded from the iPhone SE to the iPhone 7 and it’s probably one of the best things I’ve ever done. I love the bigger screen an the 3D touch. It’s definitely worth the money if you get a good deal on it. Although I wouldn’t go out my way to pay hundreds of pounds for it. Look on websites such as ‘Mobile Phone’s Direct’ to get good deals on phones, I found an amazing deal on there for mine.

University Planner

For getting into university my Auntie and Cousins bought me a WH Smith voucher to buy some stationary for university. I decided to buy a diary with it because you don’t get given one like you would in sixth form. I love to be organised and thought it would be handy to include times of lectures and trains I need to catch. I’m obsessed with stationary so this was a must buy for me.

Chuck Taylor Converse

I’ve been religiously wearing these since I bought them in New York back in February. I’d been dying for a pair for months and I’m so glad I bought them. They’re black so they basically go with any outfit you can think of. Ah, I just love them so much.

Green Tea

I used to drink green tea daily for months and for some reason I’m not quite sure of I just randomly stopped. Recently my mum has bought my some cranberry green tea which I am loving. I’m not sure what good green tea actually does for you other than providing loads of vitamins and being healthy. Whatever it does it’s worth it because it’s so nice. I haven’t really tried loads of adventurous flavours other than nice berry ones due to the fact I’m extremely fussy and hate lemon (which seems to be the most common one). Another reason behind me drinking green tea is because it seems to be helping my acne and clear my skin up. I’m not sure if this is proven or anything but it seems to work for me so I’d recommend you give it a try!

I’d love to hear what you’re favourite September items are, comment down below!

Holy Grail Make Up Product of September

I’ve decided to make some sort of series as it seemed you guys liked my last make up related post which you can find here. So every month I will make some sort of post about what my favourite make-up products are at the moment.

My first holy grail make up product has to be my L’Oreal Paris Infallible Total Cover foundation which I purchased about a 2 months ago. So, here’s what you need to know about it.

  • You can purchase it from any drug store that I’m aware of, including Superdrug and Boots.
  • It retails for £9.99
  • Comes in 6 shades
  • Full coverage claims to last up to 24 hours
  • Matte finish, lightweight foundation, transfer-free

I bought this foundation due to a recommendation from a family member back in July. This foundation claims to be full coverage and even claims to cover tattoos so I thought surely it will be able to cover a few blemishes, right? Well I can tell you now it was telling the truth. This foundation is SO GOOD. The coverage is amazing and it conceals any blemishes or redness on my face.

I chose the shade 10 Porcelain (because it was the lightest one) and it’s one of the first foundations from the drug store that have actually matched my skin. Because i’m so fair I find is extremely difficult to find a cheap and affordable brand that does a fair shade which doesn’t look orange on my skin. Considering the product only comes in 6 shades I was shocked to find that the lightest shade does in fact match my skin which for me is a huge deal.

The foundation blends extremely well and it is easy to apply more coats if need be.  It leaves a matte finish with zero shine which is a bonus for me as I have oily/combination skin. It blends well with any make-up tool really, I’ve tried a beauty blender and just your average brush and both left an even, full coverage, matte finish.

The coverage on this Foundation is amazing. It definitely does what it claims to do. I have bad acne and spots and this foundation covers them completely, I don’t even have to add concealer on top! I’m in love with this foundation.

The wear on the foundation is great from my experience. I wear a primer and setting spray on top of my make-up to help it hold in place and last all day so the wear result may not be the same for those who don’t. As for the 24 hours claim I am yet to test this, I don’t normally wear my make-up more than 7/8 hours, by the end my T zones (chin, forehead and around my nose) start to get a bit oily but I’ve had worse with other foundations. So for me this doesn’t bother me as I’m always carrying around a powder compact to block out the oils.

Would I Recommend This Product?

YES. For me the answer is plain and simple, this foundation is full coverage and covers all blemishes for an affordable price. Why wouldn’t you want to buy it?

The texture of the foundation is quite thick and creamy but surprisingly it is extremely lightweight and doesn’t cake up or feel heavy on your face.

I would 10/10 recommend this foundation, especially for those who have oily/combination skin and are looking for an affordable, full-coverage, lightweight foundation.

Let me know in the comments below what your favourite make-up products are.

What’s In My Make-up Bag?

For me make-up isn’t just a tool for confidence, it’s also a hobby of mine. I thought I’d share with you what’s in my make-up bag and which are my favourite items.

Face Products

  • L’Oreal Paris Infallible Total Cover foundation (shade 10 Porcelain)
  • NYX Full coverage Concealer (shade 01 Porcelain)
  • Collection Lasting Perfection Ultimate Wear Concealer (shade Fair 1)
  • Collection Pressed Powder (shade 01 Candlelight)
  • Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser

I’m not really too fussed on having an amazing primer, just something that hold my make-up well and creates a smooth base for my foundation. It’s cheap and available in pretty much every drug store, if you’re looking for a cheap and good value primer, look no further.

I have tested so many foundations in the past but I’ve finally found one that compliments my skin type. I have oily/acne prone skin so it’s hard for me to find a full coverage foundation that isn’t heavy and doesn’t cause anymore harm to my skin. The L’Oreal Paris Infallible Total Cover foundation is a lightweight creamy consistency which leaves a matte finish behind. This foundation is the best full coverage foundation I’ve ever used due to the fact it doesn’t feel so heavy on my skin. I would highly recommend it if you have the same skin type as me.

The NYX full coverage concealer used to be my baby however it started to cling to my dry areas and my spots after a few months. I’m not sure if they changed the ingredients but it wasn’t the right product for my skin anymore. I still use this concealer but only use it for cleaning up my eyebrows after filling them in. The concealer that replaced the NYX one was the Collection lasting perfecting ultimate wear concealer. I used this before however it started to sting my under eyes so I stopped. I recently repurchased the concealer and I’ve had no problems with it (so far). The concealer is a good coverage and wears so well under the eyes, very impressed with it considering it cost £4.99.

I don’t really like the Collection pressed powder at all. This is mainly due to the fact it’s not light enough for my skin (I’m very pale) but I will continue to use it reluctantly until I invest in another one.

Eyebrow Products

  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer (shade Soft Brown)
  • Revolution Bulletproof Palette (Medium to Dark)
  • L’Oreal Paris Brow Artist Plumper (Medium/Dark)

I bought the Brow Definer back in February when I went to New York and it’s only just run out so I’m so impressed with how long it’s last. This item is by far the best eyebrow product I’ve ever used, it’s so easy to use and gives amazing results. The Revolution Pallet is actually an extremely good pallet, it comes with 4 powders, 2 waxes, 1 highlighting concealer, 1 highlighter and 2 small eyebrow brushes. I’ve had this pallet over a year so it probably needs to be replaced but I use the powders to fill in gaps that my brow definer hasn’t (which is very rare) but hardly use it anymore. I use the Brow Plumper daily (or whenever I do my make-up) it’s so easy to use and holds the eyebrows in place all day.

Highlight and Contour Products

  • Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter
  • Sleek Face Contour Kit (Light)

The Mary-Lou Manizer is my absolute baby, the best highlighter I’ve ever had and would highly recommend it as it’s such an affordable price. The Sleek Face Contour kit is a small compact with a contour powder and a highlighting powder (which I don’t use, not my kind my colour).

Eye Shadow Products

  • Morphe 12 Shade Pallet (12NB)

I have other Eye Shadow pallets but this is my natural one that I would use if I was going for a casual look which is why I keep it in my make-up bag. The pallet is small so you can easily travel with it and put it in a small handbag. It has 4 shimmery/glittery shades and 8 matte shades, all of which range from light shades such as cream to dark browns.

Setting Spray

  • Rimmel London #Insta Fix & Go 2 in 1 Primer and Setting Spray

This isn’t the best setting spray I’ve ever tried but it does the job, you get what you pay for. After a few day the spray jammed and instead of spraying the product onto my face it not squirts. So I will be investing in a new one. If anyone can recommend a good and affordable setting spray please leave a comment down below, I would really appreciate it.

I’m leaving my Lip Products for another time as my collection is never ending! Let me know what your favourite make-up items are so I can start expanding my make-up bag.

See you soon,
