My Roaccutane Journey

Hello my Lovelies, for many of you that know me or have been reading my blog for a while you will know that I’ve suffered with acne from my young teens. This is something that has always knocked my confidence and I decided I really needed to do something about it.

After countless doctors appointments being told “you’ll grow out of it” I decided this was never going to happen and I went private and paid to see a dermatologist and see what she could give me for my acne.

So back in October 2017 I went private to a skin clinic in Cardiff. Now, I’ve never gone private for anything in my entire life health wise so to me this was a super big deal and I really really wanted to feel more comfortable in my own skin.

For anyone who’s got acne (most of us do or probably have at some point) know how badly this knocks your confidence in everyday life. I was bullied throughout school due to my skin and I genuinely hated the way I looked. So as soon as I booked an appointment to see a private dermatologist I was seen within the next month. (through the NHS you could be waiting 1 year+ to see someone).

I went to my first Consultation back in October 2017 and was straight away prescribed 20mg daily of Isotretinoin also known as Roaccutane. Now this is a pretty extreme medication which is why they cant prescribe it in your local GP. It can cause all sorts of side effects like constant nose bleeds, back pain, hair loss, extreme skin dryness, liver problems, the list goes on. Before I attended my appointment I was already well aware of this medication after a lot of research and I was more than prepared to face any side effects just to feel confident in my own skin again.

I was initially only supposed to be taking the medication for 6 months (your dosage might be higher or lower depending on your height and weight). I got 6 months into the medication and I still had acne so my dose was upped to 30mg and I was required to take it for an extra 2 months just to make sure my acne was cleared.

Just to be clear, this medication does not CURE acne and it’s not guaranteed  to work for every-one

Now onto my side effects. Because my dosage was quite low I didn’t really experience any extreme side effects. To be honest I only really experienced 3:

  • Extreme dryness of skin and lips
  • Back pain
  • Muscle aches

The side effects were actually manageable, for the dryness it was constantly moisturizing, applying Vaseline to your lips every 10 minutes, which was quite of a nightmare I won’t lie. For back pain and muscle aches I started taking fish oil supplements (you have to be careful you’re not taking any Vitamin A supplements as Roaccutane is a very high dosage of vitamin A!!!)

Now onto the dreaded before and after pictures.

Month 1

To most people this acne probably doesn’t even strike you as bad. But to me this destroyed my confidence.

Month 2

This was my second month on Roaccutane, as you can see after a month my lips are already SUPER dry and my skin is really inflamed. (for those of you who don’t know, your skin gets worse before it gets better on this medication)

Month 3

My third month is where I started to see improvements for the first time

Month 4

Slowly starting to feel more confident in my own skin

Month 5

The extent to how dry my lips and skin was, it was awfully painful

Month 6

Coming to the end of my treatment. This is when the dermatologist decided to keep me on for 2 more months.

Month 7

One more month left to go

Month 8

This is the day I took my final Roaccutane tablet (it stays in your system for a month after you’ve stopped taking it.)

Present Day

Now my skin is quite literally acne clear, my lips are slightly scarred from where I picked them when they were so dry and I’m left with a few scars.

That is my Roaccutane journey complete, this was the best decision I ever made. If you want to know what clinic i went to or what prices I paid please contact me and I’ll be happy to let you know.

See you next time,

K x

Hi my lovelies! I know it’s been a super long time since i’ve blogger and i’ve been totally MIA but i’ve just been having some time out and figuring out what I really want to do with life.

There’s been some major changes in my life i’m the past year or so. For starters I’m no longer in university as I decided this wasn’t the route I wanted to take in life.

For those of you who have read my blog for a while you’ll know I went to university and I was studying Sociology! Unfortunately I fell ill and had to drop out in January this time last year. I spent the year recovering and decided to go back to uni in September 2018 to do Media, Culture and Journalism. I made the difficult decision to decide university wasn’t for me and I struggled at the thought that I didn’t know what to do with my life.

After I made the decision to drop out of uni I had a temporary job in New Look which was great to get myself back up on my feet before looking for a new permanent job.

Now care work isn’t something that I thought I would ever get into however I’ve actually started training to be one! I think it’s one of the best opportunities I’ve ever had and I’ve had the best time training to be one as well.

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you’ll know I had been struggling with my acne for years! I actually made the decision to go private and pay for my treatment! I’m now so happy to say I am finally acne free! I will make a completely separate post about my experience during this, what medication I was on, my before and after pictures.

Anyway I know I’ve been chatting on for so long and you’re probably bored of reading this now but I just wanted to say hi and I am back and blogging again! Thank you so much to everyone who has stuck by my side throughout the past year it has meant the world to me!

See you soon,

K x

GRWM – Using Revolution Pro Pressed Glitters

Hello my lovelies, I’m so sorry for being totally MIA for the past couple of weeks. As you already know I took a break back in December due to some personal issues and I just felt like I needed to take a break again and give myself some self soothing. You know I’m a big sucker for self-care as it’s super important for your mental health. Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has stuck by me through out this time and still takes the time to read my blog. I’m super grateful!

I thought I would come back to you all today with a new blog post about the new Revolution Pro line. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, you must’ve been living under a rock. I treated myself to a few goodies when the line first came out so I thought I would include some of it in this GRWM post.

As I always start these GRWM post’s I’ll just give you a run through of what I used to create my desired makeup look.

So, to start off with I always do my brows using Benefit Ka Brow – Shade 3 to create a good shape for my brows as they’re super sparse and thin. After this I love to use the Loreal Brow Plumper to just stick all my brow hairs down so it looks tidy. To finish off my brows I always always always tidy them up using the Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer as I love my brows to look sharp and they just pop a bit more.

To start off my eye shadow I always like to pop a bit of concealer on my lids, this just evens out the discolouration on my eyelids and also primes my eyelids for eye shadow. For the majority of this eye shadow look I used the Violet Voss Holy Grail Eye Shadow Palette.

  1. R U Kitten me as a transition shade. Blending this into the crease lightly and slowly building it up so you have the perfect gradient.
  2. To darken up the crease I love to use Brownie Points as it adds a bit more depth to the crease.
  3. Now onto the outer v of my eye, I used Teddy Bear, which is a darker brown, pop that onto the outer v and slowly blend it into the crease slightly.
  4. Cut the crease with concealer, for this look I created a halo eye, using the collection lasting perfection concealer. After this make sure you blend a little more colour around the edges of the concealer just to make sure it’s perfectly blended.
  5. Now for the best part, the new Revolution Pro pressed glitters, I used the blue shade from the Glisten Up refill pack because I thought I’d do a look a bit out there and bold. I simply used my finger tip to apply this to the lid and it was sooooo pigmented! Literally one swipe of the glitter covered my entire lid!
  6. For the lower lash line I just run Brownie Points underneath the lash line and popped the Marc Jacobs Highliner in earth(quake) into my waterline.

I don’t know if it’s just me but I always like to do my base last and after my eye makeup. For my foundation I use my favourite foundation at the moment the Maybelline Super Stay 24 Hour foundation and apply this with a damp beauty blender.

Now to pop some concealer under the eyes, again using the Collection Long Lasting Concealer and blending that out using the same beauty blender.

For contour I use the Kiko Smart Contour Kit in the shade Light. This is one of my absolute favourites recently, the contour shade just seems to go so well with my pale skin.

For blush I’ve been absolutely loving the Benefit Rockateur blush, I never used to wear blush because every single one I tried used to look awful because I’m so pale but I have finally found a blush I lovveeee.

Highlight I used the Babe in Paradise highlighting palette by Morphe X Bretman. This palette is absolutely insane!! I love the shade Vagaytion, it’s the perfect champagne colour and it is sooooooo pigmented!! I run this across the high points of my face and also in the corners of my eyes.

Let me know what you think of the Revolution Pro glitters and if you’d like me to do another make up look using them!

For me these glitters definitely get a 5/5… IN LOVE.

Until next time,

Morphe 15N Night Master Palette… Worth it?

Hello my Lovelies, I’m back again with another blog post. I hope you’ve all had a lovely week, I can’t believe it’s Friday already, March seems to have flown by. It will be summer by the time we know it, not that I’m complaining at all.

I’ve had a bit of a hectic week trying to get all of my writing together for my university interview in 2 weeks time. I’ve never had an interview for university before so I’m super nervous! (I didn’t require an interview for my sociology degree)

Today I thought I would share with you my thoughts on the Morphe 15N Night Master Palette which retails for £15 on Beauty Bay but I think you may also be able to purchase this palette from the Morphe website. Price wise I think it’s amazing and definitely worth the money. In my opinion Morphe palette’s are amazing quality for your money. The shades are always super pigmented and super blend-able. I just completely love Morphe palettes so much.

The packaging of this palette is pretty sleek, it’s different compared to the other palettes as it also includes a big mirror which is super handy. I love having a mirror on a palette so I don’t have to start dragging out my other mirror. For £15 you can’t really go wrong, the palette looks really high-end and durable. It’s also a great size for travelling, not too big and has a great range of shades in that you can create loads of different looks.

The palette contains 15 shades, 3 rows of 5 shades, each row contains all the colours you need to create an eye shadow look. Each row contains 2 shimmers and 3 matte shades. The idea behind this set up is that it makes it super easy to create different eye shadow looks as all the colour you need are right in front of you. I think this is a great idea for individuals who are a bit more scared to experiment with darker colours, or just someone who doesn’t really know what eye-shadow look they’re fancying.

Here’s a description of the shades taken from the Beauty Bay website:

  • Custom – A matte cream.
  • Unique – Shimmering beige.
  • Opal – Matte orange.
  • Talent – Shimmering orange peach.
  • Shook – Matte deep orange.
  • Va Va Voom – Matte dusky deep red.
  • Illustrated – Shimmering pink purple.
  • Goals – Deep matte orange.
  • Editorial – Matte orange brown.
  • Creativity – Shimmering coral.
  • Scene – Dark matte purple.
  • Cliché – Deep matte pink.
  • Excuse Me – Shimmering dark purple.
  • Hello – Matte off brown.
  • Craze – Shimmering purple.

The only difference between my palette and this list is that one of my shades is called something else which I find is really strange. What should be the shade “Opal” is called “Selfie” in my palette. I’m not sure if there’s a new version out or an error or something but it’s the same colour? Oh well, anyway, onto the swatches.

I’m so pale the shade ‘Custom’ doesn’t show up on my arm, it is there I promise!!

As you can see from the swatches above all the shades in the palette are really pigmented and really creamy as well. I found the shimmery shades weren’t chunky at all and were actually some of the most pigmented shades in the palette! None of the shades seem patchy or lack pigment which is amazing for a palette that only cost £15, I would totally recommend getting this palette, the shades are beautiful and it’s perfect to create some eye-catching night looks.

I used the first row of colours to create the following look…

As you can see I used the first row of shades to create a natural look but you can definitely vamp it up to create a more glamorous look.

What do you guys think of the look I created?

This palette definitely gets a 5/5 for me, I’m totally in love!

March Beauty Must-Haves

Hello my Lovelies I’m back again with another blog post! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful day, mine on the other hand has been an absolute nightmare. I had some bloods drawn this morning for a routine check-up and the nurse accidentally hit a nerve! So I’m mostly typing with my right hand as my left arm is currently injured.

Anyway, onto today’s post. I thought I would share with you my favourite beauty favourites, basically which products I’ve been totally loving this month.

One of the many products I’ve been loving this month is the Benefit KA Brow in shade 3. Now this isn’t exactly the cheapest brow product ever, it retails for £20.50 which you can purchase from Boots, House of Fraser, Debenhams and other beauty stores. I’m not usually one to spend that amount of money on a brow product but I do have to say it does wonders for my sparse, lifeless eyebrows. the packaging is stunning let’s be real, I just love the packaging of Benefit products, I think they’re just beautiful. It defiantly looks high-end.

The second product I’ve been loving the past couple of weeks is another product from Benefit. It’s the Benefit Bad Gal BANG Mascara, which I have done a full review on a few weeks ago so I won’t babble on too much about it. If you’d like to find out more about it make sure you check out my blog post —> here. I absolutely love this mascara, my eyelashes lack volume and length so for me a usually go for a mascara that does both as well as using an eyelash curler everyday. This mascara was on another level, it was almost as if I was wearing fake eyelashes. I would totally recommend this mascara to anyone!

Next up is the Maybelline Superstay 24 Hour Foundation which I have also done a full review of and you can check it out —> here. I’ve been loving this foundation so much, it’s even my daily go to foundation now. The coverage is amazing and it’s even great for my awfully dry skin. Doesn’t crease up through-out the day, doesn’t look cakey. I just love it so much. If you haven’t tried it, you need to.

OK, so the last item on my list that I’ve been absolutely loving this month is the Soph X Revolution Eyeshadow Palette which you can purchase from Superdrug for a bargain price of £10! Yes £10! The palette contains a range of shades, 14 mattes and 10 shimmers which is an amazing deal, 24 shades in total. There is a massive variety of shades in the palette which means you can create so many looks with just using one palette! One of my favourite shades in the palette is a shimmer called Grow Old. Apply this with your finger to your lid and it literally looks like foil. Buy, buy, buy, buy.

Thanks for reading, what’s your favourite beauty products of the month?

Until next time,

Top 5 Places I Want To Visit

Hello my Lovelies, I’m back again with another blog post. How have you all been the past couple of days? I’ve had a stressful past couple of days but I’m trying my best to stay mindful and giving myself some self love.

I’ve been super bored today, so bored that I started cleaning my windows and bleach cleaning. I must admit it was enjoyable seeing everything clean because I always like things to be tidy. Other than doing a pre-spring-boredom-clean I have been thinking about places that I would love to visit.

  1. One of the many places I’ve been dying to visit lately is Amsterdam, I have been so close to just randomly booking flights and going the very next day. I would love to visit the museums there, particularly the body museum. Some of my family went to look at this museum and I’ve been dying to go ever since, it looks so interesting. Other than the museums I want to go purely for the beautiful scenery, so many people are visiting lately and it makes me soooo jealous!!
  2. The second place I would love to visit is Reykjavik in Iceland just because it’s beautiful, need I say anymore? I would love to go to see the Northern Lights, I just think that would be a totally unforgettable sight and a dream come true. As well as this, we can’t be forgetting about the Blue Lagoon, if you don’t know what that is, where have you been? I’d love to check this off my bucket list of places to visit.
  3. Another place I would love to visit is Sydney. I have never been to Australia before, in fact I’ve never flown for longer than 9 hours before. It’s more the weather and beaches that draws me to this place. Sun, beaches, clear water, what more could you ask for? Seems like a perfect summer holiday if you ask me.
  4. Next up, Paris. From the cute cafes, to amazing shopping and the amazing markets. It just has to be done, I would love to experience this, even if it’s just for one day. I just want to be like Blair from Gossip Girl and roam the streets of Paris shopping all day. We can’t be missing the Eiffel Tower, that’s something that just has to be ticked off the bucket list.
  5. Last but not the least by a far mile. New York City. I visited New York for a week last year and I can tell you now it was the best experience I’ve ever had. I absolutely fell in love with the place and I would do anything to go back there. I visited the Statue of Liberty, Staten Island, went to the top of the Empire State Building. It was truly the most amazing trip ever. Someone take me back pleaasseeeeeee.

I hope you enjoyed reading my top 5 places I would love to visit! Dying for a holiday after writing this, I need a holiday.

Until next time,

Eye Makeup Look Using Morphe 35N

Hello my lovelies, I reached out to you guys on my Instagram (@livewithkatieblog) and asked if you’d like to see an eye makeup look using the Morphe 35N palette and you highly requested it. So here it is.

As you may know if you’ve used Morphe palettes before the shades don’t have names which is quite annoying, however doesn’t shift the fact the palette is amazing. I personally love Morphe palettes because they’re not really on the expensive side and you get a hell of a lot shades for what you pay for.

So today I will be running you through the look I created using the Morphe 35N palette which you can purchase from Beauty Bay for just £23. Now I think that’s an absolute bargain if you ask me, especially for 35 shades. All the shades in this palette are matte there are no shimmers at all so you may have to use your own shimmers if you want to up your look however this palette is made up of neutrals so it’s amazing for an everyday look.

So to start off my look I used the first shade in the palette to just set my concealer (which I used to prime my lid) which is just a really natural white base shade which is perfect to just put down all over the lid.

Next I moved onto transition shades, I used a burnt orange shade mixed with a brown to create a transition, popping both shades straight into the crease. The shades in this palette are super blend-able, I had no problem with blending the two together, plus they look so beautiful together.

I wasn’t really sure what look I was going for when creating this but the beautiful dark purple/burgundy shades immediately popped out to me. I used the next two shades to darken up the crease, the lighter colour more so just to add a bit more warmth to the crease.

Taking that same dark purple I then popped that onto the outer v of my eyelid and dragging it into the crease slightly, just making sure everything is perfectly blended together.

I then added a gold shimmer to the top of the lid from another palette as like I said before this palette contains no shimmer what so ever.

Underneath the last line I used some of the transition shades I used on the top lid just to pull the look together.

Now that’s my eye look complete. It’s nothing too extreme or anything, it’s just a pretty simple look, one that I completely made up on the spot anyway. At the end of it you should pretty much have a finished eye makeup look somewhat looking like this….

makeup close up
