Bring Me The Horizon have been around a lot longer than you think, in fact the band actually formed in 2004 and they are still active now. In this post I’ll take you through the bands background, their achievements and their discography.
As I mentioned above the band was formed in 2004, with the majority of the members being there from the beginning. Below are the current members of Bring Me The Horizon.
- Oliver Sykes – Lead Vocals
- Matt Kean – Bass
- Lee Malia – Lead guitar and rhythm guitar
- Matt Nicholls – Drums and percussion
- Jordan Fish – Keyboards, programming, percussion, vocals (2012-present)
The band were originally known as a Deathcore band in the early stages but eventually shifted into Metalcore and may even be classed as Alternative metal or Electronic rock now. Besides the changes in the band and genre throughout the years the band have still proven to be extremely popular.
After some a demos and an EP, Bring Me The Horizon released their first studio album “Count Your Blessings‘ in 2006. The album was primarily Deathcore and was released when the band was signed to ‘Visible Noise’ for a 4 album deal. Later in 2006 the band also won the Kerrang! Award for Best British Newcomer.
Bring Me The Horizon recorded their second studio album ‘Suicide Season‘ and it was released in 2008. To promote the album the band headed on their first headline tour of the US, appeared at Warped Tour and also was the main supporting band on ‘I Killed The Prom Queen’s‘ Farewell tour.
The bands third album ‘The Is A Hell Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There Is A Heaven Let’s Keep It A Secret‘ was released in late 2010 and made it to Number 13 on the UK Album Chart. In December 2010 Bring Me The Horizon joined Bullet For My Valentine as the main support band on a short tour around the UK. This tour was a sell out, ticket vendors had to release more tickets for every venue. In 2011 BMTH set off on a European Tour and Also supported Machine Head as one of the main support acts.
In 2013 the band played more shows and this was the year of the bands fourth album ‘Sempiternal‘. The album made it to Number 3 on the Uk Album charts and was the first album to feature their new Keyboardist Jordan Fish. Sempiternal also managed to hit Number 11 on the Us Billboard 200 with over 27,000 sales with the first week.
2015 was the year of the bands fifth studio album ‘Thats’s The Spirit‘ with the first single ‘Happy Song‘ being released in July. The Album included elements of Electronic Rock/Pop Rock. The album was eventually released in September of 2015 and shortly after the band set off on another US tour followed by a European one.
Finally, Bring Me The Horizon most recent studio album ‘Amo‘ was released in 2019, however the first single ‘Mantra’ was released in August 2018. This is the album where you can see the biggest shift in genres. ‘Amo’ also included some of the same elements as ‘That’s The Spirit‘ such as Electronic Rock/Pop Rock. Following the release of this album it was also nominated for another Kerrang! Award as well as a Grammy Award for the Best Rock Album.
The band since hasn’t released another album besides EP’s. In November 2019 the band released the EP ‘Ludens‘ which was an EP for the soundtrack for the 2019 action game ‘Death Stranding‘. Shortly after, ‘Music to Listen to~Dance to~Blaze to~Pray to~Feed to~Sleep to~Talk to~Grind to~Trip to~Breathe to~Help to~Hurt to~Scroll to~Roll to~Love to~Hate to~Learn Too~Plot to~Play to~Be to~Feel to~Breed to~Sweat to~Dream to~Hide to~Live to~Die to~Go To‘ was released. You’re properly wondering what you’ve just read. This is an EP that Bring Me The Horizon released in late 2019. It’s a very experimental piece that was a clear shift from the bands pervious work.
The bands most recent work would be ‘Parasite Eve‘ which was released in June 2020. The EP had been written and produced in a home studio due to the Covid -19 pandemic. As well as ‘Parasite Eve’ being released the band also revealed a new project titled ‘Post Human‘ which is said to be made up of four EP’s that would be released throughout the next year.
So you can pretty much guess why Bring Me The Horizon have become a huge band within the metal community from the music to the touring it all adds up. I guess we sit tight and wait for the new EP to be released. Let me know in the comments what other bands you’d like me to talk about.
